On October 17th, 2016, the Rookie Robot Quick Build Challenge was held at DOW AgroSciences in Indianapolis. All of IndianaFIRST 2017 FRC rookie teams made it to the event! We had a total of 6 mentors and 31 students in attendance for the Rookie Robot Challenge. Along with the 2 rookie teams, we also had two veteran teams represented, FRC 234 and FRC 1018, volunteered at the event!
The Rookie Quick Build not only gives rookie teams a much needed experience in how to build a robot, but also provides a basic robot chassis to the teams for them to use to demo at events to recruit new students, mentors and sponsors for the team. They also receive a tool bag full of items helpful to start a team, along with making connections with their fellow rookie teams and veteran teams.
“The event was very worthwhile. We learned a lot of things that will be helpful in building our robot and a good chunk of starting money so we can be sure to participate. Overall a very worthwhile trip.” - FRC 6498 Team Member
Special thanks to Allison Phelps, the RRQB Challenge coordinator, for the time she put into organizing the kits, to FRC 234 and FRC1018 for working with the rookie teams , to DOW AgroSciences for supporting and hosting the event, and to Andy Mark for supporting the Robot Rookie Quick Build Challenge. Thank you all for your support! We could not have done it without you!
